His full name is Hafshah bint Umar bin Khaththab bin Naf’al bin Abdul-Uzza bin Riyah bin Abdullah bin Qurt bin Rajah bin Adi bin Luay, women who were born among the saints and shalihah who were among the companions of the Apostle. She was a woman of Adawiyah Arab descent and was also the daughter of one of the companions of the Prophet Shallallahu’alaihi Wassalam, namely Umar bin Khaththab. His mother, Zainab bint Madh’un bin Hubaib bin Wahab bin Hudzafah, was the sister of Uthman bin Madh’un, the first muhajirin and leader of the group of people who migrated first to Habsyi.
Hafshah was born during one of the historical times, when the Prophet moved Hajar Aswad back to the ka’bah after the previous ka collapsed due to the flood, and only intermittent a few days after the birth of Fatima Az-Zahra, and only a few days after the birth of Fatima Az-Zahra, the Prophet's daughter Shallallahu’alaihi wa sallam.
Before Allah blessed his family with Islam, his father was a man of strong character as well as the main enemy of Muslims who are respected and feared by many people. When he heard that his son was born was a princess, he was angry and restless with his father. “The birth of a girl among the tribe of Quraysh at the time was a shameful news!” Maybe so he thought. Daughter is considered a disgrace that tarnishes good name. If only her father had known that her daughter would be a great good to her and would have been one of the wives of Allah's Apostle, maybe he will be the happiest person at that time.
However, it turns out that Allah granted the prayer of the Prophet Shallallahu’alaihi wa sallam, and gave guidance to convert to Islam to one of the two Umar. By His power, He chose Umar ibn Khaththab to taste the sweetness of faith. Hafshah who was only ten years old at that time finally embraced Islam.
Hafshah is a woman with a character not far from her father. She is a brave woman, strong personality, and firm in speech. Hafshah is also a woman who is good at reading and writing when other women are considered not worthy of this ability.
Hafshah was also the widow of a pious mujahid, Khunais bin Hudzafah as-Sahami. His second marriage took place when the muhajirins in Habashah returned to Mecca, and Khunais was one of them. When he reached Mecca, Khunais immediately visited Umar, and there he saw the Hafshah. Umar immediately approved when Khunais asked to marry Hafhsaah. The marriage between Hafshah and Khunais took place.
Not too long ago they took the household life, God gave trials to Hafshah. The beloved husband had to die after participating in jihad in the Battle of Badr and was seriously injured. In the war, Allah won the Muslims despite advancing with a small amount. In her last days, Hafshah patiently accompanied and treated her husband. Although finally Allah willed another, namely calling Khunais in a state of martyrdom. Hafshah, then only 18 years old, became a widow.
Umar, who knew that his son was a widow at a young age, became restless. He intended to remarry the Hafshah to a righteous man. He asked Abu Bakr and Uthman ibn Affan to marry his daughter, but neither agreed. Then Umar went to Rasulullah Shallallahu’alaihi Wa Sallam and complained all his turmoil. After hearing everything, the Prophet Shallallahu’alaihi Wa Sallam simply said,
“Hafshah will marry someone better than Uthman and Abu Bakr. Uthman would marry someone better than Hafshah.”
Finally Hafshah officially became one of the wives of the most noble man on earth, the lover of Allah, namely his Prophet Shallallahu’aihi Wa Sallam. Hafshah became one of the Prophet's wives who diligently worshiped, increased fasting, and night prayers even after the Prophet Shallallahu’alaihi Wa Sallam died.
The specialty of Hafshah is that he managed to collect the Quran because of his skill in reading and writing. The Quran which had previously been erased can be recollected one of them is because of Hafshah, the only wife of the Prophet who is good at reading and writing.
After many of the Qur'an's memorizers were martyred, and at the urging of Umar Bin Khaththab, Abu Bakr ordered the Hafshah to collect the Quran's leaves and keep them. Hafshah was the owner of the first mushaf, and the first mushaf was in his house until his death.
Hafshah, huh, an intelligent and resilient woman who was in-‘hadiah’ was a great honor to be the wife of the Prophet and to be the collector and owner of the first Quranic mushaf after the patience and spaciousness of her chest in accepting the death of her husband she loved him and became a widow at a young age. The problems we face today may still be a fraction of the severity of the problems faced by the Hafshah, or they may be the same. However, with his patience and sincerity in accepting the calamity, Hafshah can go through it, even get greater happiness. Can't we? The answer of course can be. God's promise to those who are patient will never be denied.
Hafshah, a figure who deserves to be an example and gives a firm statement that demanding knowledge is an obligation for every Muslimah. Muslim women have the right to study at the highest level, without having to override their other obligations. Including in the fields of science that have not been widely explored by most women. Remember, Hafshah was good at reading and writing when that ability was still considered ‘aneh’ for women of her day.
Hafshah, with his intelligence is able to produce something useful for Muslims until now. Won't we be as good as Hafshah?
