Ummul Mukminin Shafiyah bint Huyai has a noble lineage. He was a noble of Bani Nadhir descendant of the Prophet Aaron ‘alaihissalam. This means that if drawn the line of the Prophet Moses ‘alaihissalam counted as his uncle. The primacy was more complete because Prophet Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was her husband.
He was Shafiyah bint Huyai bin Akhtab bin Syu’ah bin Ubaid bin Ka’ab bin al-Khazraj bin Abi Hubaib bin an-Nadhir bin an-Niham bin Tahum from the Banu Israil which included the grandson of the Prophet Aaron bin Imran ‘alaihissalam's. His mother was Barrah bint Samau-al.
Ummul Mukminin Shafiyah was born in the year 9 before the hijrah and died in 50 AD. The year of birth and death coincided with 613 AD and 670 AD.
Before marrying Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alahi wa sallam, Shafiyah's mother married Sallam bin Mishkam. He is a poet. Then Sallam divorced her. She married Kinanah bin Abu Huqaiq, who was also a poet. In those days, poets held noble positions. They count as clever scholars. And her last husband was killed in the Battle of Khaibar (Ibn Abdil Bar: al-Isti’ab, 4/1871 and Muhibbuddin ath-Thabari: as-Simthu ats-Tsamin Hal: 201).
Ummul Mukminin Shafiyah radhiallahu ‘anha was a noble of Bani Quraizhah and Bani an-Nadhir. His father, Huyai bin Akhtab, was a Jewish figure and their scholar. The father knew that Muhammad bin Abdullah was a prophet of the last days. He knew exactly from the first time the noble Prophet's feet had traced the land of Yathrib (the name of Medina in the past). He is arrogant and rejects the truth. Because what? For the prophet is of Arab origin not of a child of Israel (Prophet Ya’qub).
The situation of Ummul Mukmini Shafiyah's father, he immediately told himself. He told me, “No one of my father's children and my uncle loves more than me. None of the two children made them happy, unless he involved me with him. When the Messenger of Allah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam arrived at Quba - the village of Bani Amr ibn Auf-, my father and uncle, Abu Yasir ibn Akhtab, came to see him in the morning blind. By Allah, they had just come home to see us when the sun disappeared. Both of them came with withered, warped expressions, and a lethargic tergontai road. I try to make them happy like I always do. By Allah, none of the two cared even if they just looked at me. I heard my uncle, Abu Yasir, speak to my father, “Is he really the prophet? “Iya, by Allah,” replied father. “You recognize him by his traits and signs?” ask uncle again. “Iya, by Allah,” father gave the same answer. “Then how are you doing with him?” ask uncle. Father replied, “For God's sake, hostility as long as I'm alive.”
It was told by Musa bin Uqbah az-Zuhri that when the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam in Medina, Abu Yasir ibn Akhtab came to meet him. He hears his words. After that, he returned to his people and said, “Obey me. Verily Allah has brought to you the one whom you have been waiting for. Follow her! Don't you guys cut it out.”
Then Huyai bin Akhtab who was the leader of the Jews immediately went to meet the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. He sat down and heard the words of the Prophet. After that, go home to his people. Huyai was a man of obedience. He said, “I have come to see the man. By Allah, I will be hostile forever.”
Abu Yasir said, “Hi my uncle's son, come with me on this matter. Other than this matter please do not be with me as you please. You will not perish.”
Huyai replied, “No! By Allah! I won't obey you.” It is ruled by Satan. And his people followed his views (Ibn Hisham: as-Sirah an-Nabawiyah 1/519-520 and Ibn Kathir: as-Sirah an-Nabawiyah 2/298).
When the captives were gathered, Dihyah ibn Caliph al-Kalbi met the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, give me a slave girl from this captivity.” Prophet responded, “Please. Take a slave girl.” Dihyah who Angel Jibril likes to sneer this choose Shafiyah bint Huyai.
Then someone came to see the Prophet. He said, “O Prophet of Allah, you have given Dihyah a Shafiyah bint Huyai. Bani Quraizah and Bani Nadhir. A woman who is not worthy of anyone but you. Then the Prophet said, “Call Dihyah together with Shafiyah.” Dihyah also came to bring Shafiyah. When the Prophet saw Shafiyah, he said to Dihyah, “Choose a prisoner of women other than himself.”
On another occasion, the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam ordered Bilal to bring Shafiyah. When he was about to meet the Prophet, Bilal took Shafiyah by the road, which had many casualties of war. The Prophet did not like what Bilal did. He said, “Did you lose your affection, Bilal?”
The Prophet offered Shafiyah to embrace Islam. He also chose Islam. Then the Prophet married her (after her reign was over). His release as a prisoner was his wedding dowry. When he looked at him, the Prophet saw a bruise on Shafiyah's face. He asked, “What is this?” Shafiyah replied, “Before your arrival, I had a dream as if the moon had disappeared from its place and entered my house. By Allah, I did not mention you at all. Then I told my husband that dream. He slapped me.” He said, “You wish the ruler of Medina was!” (Ibnul Qayyim: Zadul Ma’ad, 3/291)
One of the wisdom of the multiplication of the wife of the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam is a social factor. It helps and maintains the feelings of the married person. Islam preserves the position of a person. With Islam their position does not fall, even more glorious. Who is noble before embracing Islam, the more noble his position with Islam. Likewise the state of Ummul Mukminin Shafiyah bint Huyai radhiallahu ‘anha. She was a noble woman before she embraced Islam. A leader of his people. Daughter of the chief of the tribe. And the wife of a noble one. After he embraced Islam, this noble religion still maintained its position. Keeping feelings. Allah married him to the noblest of the Muslims, the Prophet of Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam
The Prophet was a gentle and affectionate man to his wives, including to Ummul Mukminin Shafiyah radhiallahu ‘anha. One day, it came to Shafiyah's ear that the prophet's wife, Hafshah bint Umar, called her the daughter of a Jew. Shafi'ah crying. At the same time the Prophet of Allah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam came to see him and saw him crying. He asked, “What makes you cry?” She replied, “Hafshah bint Umar told me that I am the daughter of a Jew.” The Prophet said to her, “Truly you are the daughter of a prophet. Your uncle was also a prophet. And you are in the shadow of a prophet. How come you're not proud of it.” Then he said to Hafsha, “O Hafshah, fear Allah.” (Muhibbuddin ath-Thabari: as-Shimthu ats-Tsamin P. 207).
The meaning of Shafiyah, the daughter of a prophet, is that of his Prophet Aaron. So that the Prophet Aaron was counted as his father. The prophet Aaron was the brother of Moses. So he had an uncle a prophet too. Under the prophet. It means that your husband who sheltered you is also a prophet.
One day Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam beri’tikaf in the mosque. The Prophet with his wives. As they were leaving, the Prophet said to Shafiyah bint Huyay, “Don't rush home. I'll take you.” Shafiyah's house was in Usama's place. Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam came out with Shafiyah. On the way, the Prophet met two Ansharites. The two looked at the prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam for a moment and continued walking. He shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said to the two, “Come you, this is Shafiyah bint Huyay”. And they both said, “Holy is Allah, O Messenger of Allah. Then he shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “Truly the devil walks on man through the bloodstream and I fear that a feeling has arisen in both of you.” (CHR. Al-Bukhari No's. 1897 Book of I’tikaf)
Ummul Mukminin Shafiyah bint Huyai radhiallahu ‘anha died in 50 H/670 AD in the reign of Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan radhiallahu ‘anhu. And he was buried in Baqi’ Cemetery (Ibn Hajar: Tadzhib at-Tadzhib, 12/380).
