His father was Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr ash-Shidiq, his Ibn was the daughter of Yazdajir, the last Persian king. While his paternal aunt was Aisyah, Ummul Mukminin. In addition, above his head has perched the crown of takwa and science. Do you still think there is a victory higher than the victory that everyone competes and races to get this?
He was al-Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abu Bakr ash-Shiddiq, one of the seven fuqaha of Medina, the foremost of his knowledge in his day, the sharpest of his brain intelligence, and the best of his wara’nya. Let us open the pages of his life from the beginning.
Al-Qasim bin Muhammad was born at the end of the caliphate of Uthman bin Affan radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Along with the growth and development of this child, the storm of slander increasingly devastating hit the Muslims. Until it resulted in the killing of the vice caliph, worship expert, Dzun Nurain Uthman bin Affan as a martyr, while the Koran was in his arms.
Shortly after that came a major dispute between Amirul Mukminin Ali bin Abi Thalib radhiyallahu ‘anhu and Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan bin Harb, governor for the Sham region. In a series of dire circumstances and gripping events, the boy finds himself with his younger sister brought from Medina to Egypt, following both of his parents. His father was appointed governor of Egypt by the caliph Ali bin Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu.
In this city he had to watch the claws of slander gripping further and further until finally his father died in a vile way. Subsequently he moved again from Egypt back to Medina after power held by Mu’awiyah radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Now he's an orphan. Al-Qasim told me about his life journey which was laden with suffering:
“After the killing of my father in Egypt, my uncle Abdurrahman came to take me and my younger sister to Medina. Upon arrival in this city, my aunt, Ummul Mukminin, sent someone to take the two kai to his house and be kept under his supervision.
It turns out that I have never met a mother and father who was better and more affectionate than him. He fed us with his hands, and he did not eat with us. When we had left the food, he ate it. She loved us like a mother who was still nursing her baby. He bathed us, combed our hair, gave us clean white clothes. He always encourages us, to do good and trains us for it by his example. He forbade us to do evil deeds and told us to leave him far away. He also taught us to read the Book of Allah and narrated the hadiths that we could understand. On the feast day, increase his love and gifts for us. At dusk on Arafah's day, he cut my hair, bathed me and my sister. In the morning we were given new clothes and then I was told to go to the mosque for the Id prayer. When I finished, I was gathered together with my sister and then we ate udhhiyah meat.
One day he put on a white shirt for us. Then I was placed in his lap one while my sister in the other. Uncle Abdurrahman came at his invitation. Then Aisha's aunt began to speak, she began with praise to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, truly I have never heard before and after a man or woman who is more fluent and better, he said. He said to uncle. “Oh my brother, I see it looks like you've been away from me ever since I took and cared for these two kids. By Allah I do not do so out of defiance to You, not because I put a bad thought on You, nor because I do not believe that You can fulfill the right of both. It's just that you have more than one wife, while at that time these two little children can't take care of themselves. So I worry if both are in a state of dislike and unpleasant in the view of your wives. So I feel more entitled to fulfill the rights of both at that time. But now that both of them are teenagers and have been able to take care of themselves, then take them and I leave the responsibility to you.” Finally, my uncle Abdurrahman brought us to his house.
Only, the heart of the son of Abu Bakr's descendants is still adrift with the house of his aunt, Aisyah. Longing for the floor of the house mixed with the coolness of the prophecy. She was flourishing and nourished by the care of the homeowner, she was full in her affection. He divided his time between his aunt's house and his uncle's.
Her aunt's house was very memorable in her heart. That cool environment turned on the sanitary napkins for the rest of his life. Consider the impressions that are in his heart:
“One day, I said to me my aunt Aisyah: “Wahai mother, show me the grave of Prophet Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and his two companions, I would love to see him.”
The three graves were inside his house, covered with something to block the view. He showed us three tombs that were neither revealed nor attached. All three were sprinkled with red gravel as it was sown in the courtyard of the mosque. I asked, “Where is the tomb of Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam?” He appointed one of them: “This.” Along with that, two tears rolled down his cheek, but it was immediately sealed so that I wouldn't see it. The tomb of the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was somewhat more advanced than the tombs of his two companions.
I asked again, “Then which is my grandfather's tomb, Abu Bakr?” Pointing to one grave he said, “This one.” I saw my grandfather's grave parallel to the Prophet's shoulder. I said, “This is the tomb of Umar?” He replied, “True.”
He attended the ceremony of Abu Hurairah, Abdullah bin Umar, Abdullah bin Abbas, Abdullah bin Zubair, Abdullah bin Ja’far, Abdullah bin Khabbab, Rafi’ bin Khudaij, Aslam aide of Umar bin Khathab and so on. Until in turn he became a mujtahid priest and transformed into the most intelligent man in terms of sunah in his time.
After perfectly fitting the science of youth who was Abu Bakr's grandson, the crowd studied him a lot with great care. While he gave his knowledge selflessly or sold expensively. He was never absent to go to the Nabawi Mosque every day, then prayed two rakaat tahiyatul mosque then sat in the former place of Umar radhiyallahu ‘anhu di Raudhah, that is the place between the grave of the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam with his pulpit. Next gather his students from all directions to draw knowledge from fresh and clean sources, relieving souls who thirst for knowledge.
It did not take long, finally, al-Qasim bin Muhammad and his aunt's son, Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar, became two trusted imams of Medina. Both become figures who are obeyed and heard, he said, although both do not have a position or power. Society raised both because of the nature of takwa and wara’nya. Also because of the inheritance that was in his chest in the form of his knowledge and understanding, plus, because of the nature of zuhudnya to what is owned by humans and expect a lot of against anything that is on the side of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.
The dignity of the two reached its peak until the caliphs of Bani Umayyah and his subordinates respected him. These rulers never decided on a strange matter except after listening to the opinions of the two scholars.
For example, when al-Walid bin Abdul Malik wished to expand the noble al-Haram an-Nabawi. This plan could not be implemented without dismantling the old mosque in all four directions and displacing the house of the wives of the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam for expansion.
The issue is vulnerable to divisions between Muslims and hurting their feelings. In view of this, the caliph wrote to Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the guardian of Medina, the following:
“I see the need to expand the asy-Sharif Nabawi Mosque to 200 square cubits. For this need, the four walls had to be torn down and the houses of the wives of the Prophet were forced to be expanded. In addition, the houses around it need to be purchased and the qibla is advanced if possible. You are able to make that happen, given your standing among your uncles are descendants of Ibn al-Khathab and the magnitude of their influence in society.
If the people of Medina refuse it, you can ask for help from al-Qasim and Salim bin Abdullah. Include both in this restoration and expansion plan. Do not forget to pay compensation for people's houses at the highest price possible. For you good reward as Umar bin Khathab and Uthman bin Affan.” did
Immediately, the governor of Medina Umar bin Abdul Aziz invited al-Qasim bin Muhammad and Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar and the leaders of the Muslims of Medina. They were read out by the caliph's warrant that had just been received. It turned out that they were happy with what was planned by Amirul Mukminin and were ready to support the plan.
Elsewhere, the Muslim armies continued to gain resounding victories. They succeeded in taking down the enemy fortresses in Constantinople and took city after city under the leadership of the agile and courageous commander, Maslamah bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan. This was the beginning of Constantinople.
The Roman emperor heard about the restoration and expansion of the Nabawi Mosque, so he wanted to please and take the heart of Amirul Mukminin. He sent 100 kilograms of pure gold accompanied by 100 architects from Rome and brought beautiful marble tiles. The aid was sent by al-Walid to Umar bin Abdul Aziz. The guardian of Medina was only willing to use it after first deliberation with al-Qasim bin Muhammad.
