Wife of the Prophet

Wife of the Prophet
Juwariyah Bint Harist

His real name is Barrah (meaning ring on the nose and its relation to women is an allusion to a beautiful woman who has married). The Prophet had married her, unhappy with this name, replacing it with the name Juwairiyah (mushaggar Jariyah). Likewise, as the wives of other Prophet Muhammad, Juwairiyah has the title as Ummul Mukminin. His father was Harith ibn Abi Dhirar, a chief of the tribe of Bani Mustaliq.  Since the Banu Mustaliq is part of the Khuza'ah, Mustaliq and Khuza'ah are also mentioned for him

After her first husband was killed in Ghazwah Bani Mustaliq, Juwairiyah was captured by Islamic forces and became a kanizah of one of the Muslims. Then, he asked the Prophet for his freedom and then the Prophet bought and released him. After that, the Prophet married Juwairiyah. As the dowry of this marriage, the Prophet freed forty slaves and the Muslims followed the Prophet and freed all the prisoners of war. According to Juwairiyah's confession that she married the Prophet when she was twenty years old.

The name Juwairiyah is in the lineage of sanad partly history.  Among the narrators are Abdullah bin Abbas and Mujahid bin Jabar Makki.

Juwairiyah in 56 AH, during the caliphate of Muawiyah, died in Medina. Marwan bin Hakam who became the Governor of Madina had his body crucified. The Juwairiyah cemetery is located in Jannatuk Baqi
