Wife of the Prophet

Wife of the Prophet
Zainab bint khuzaimah

Since the time of Jahiliyah, Ummul Mukminin Zainab bint Khuzaimah was nicknamed the mother of the poor. It is because of his generosity, compassion, and passion in meeting the needs of the poor.

His name and name is Zainab bint Khuzaimah bin al-Harith bin Abdullah bin Amr bin Abdu Manaf bin Hilal bin Amir bin Sha’ah al-Hilaliyah. His mother was Hind bint Auf bin Zuhair bin al-Hairts. People commented, “No woman has a son-in-law as great as Hind bint Auf, his mother Zainab, Maimunah, and his brothers.” Among his sons-in-law were Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, al-Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib, Ja’far bin Abu Talib, Ali bin Abu Talib, Abu Bakr, and others, and Syaddad bin Usamah bin al-Hadi (al-Ashami: Samthu an-Nujum al-‘Awali, 1/201).

Zainab is the sister of Ummul Mukminin Maimunah bint al-Harits radhiallahu ‘anha.

Before marrying the Prophet Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, Zainab's mother radhiallahu ‘anha had twice entered into a marriage relationship. Her first husband was Ath-Thufail bin al-Harith bin al-Muthalib bin Abdu Manaf. Then he was divorced by ath-Thufail. After that, Ubaidah bin al-Harits radhiallahu ‘anhu married her. Her second husband was killed at the Battle of Badr (Muhibbuddin ath-Thabari: as-Samthu ats-Tsamin, P. 185). Some say her second husband was Abdullah bin Jahsh who died in the Battle of Uhud. And this second opinion is stronger than the first (al-Mizzi: Tadzhib al-Kamal, 1/204).

After the Battle of Uhud in 3 A. D., Zainab returned to life alone. Her husband, Abdullah bin Jahsh, was martyred in the war. The Prophet knew of the calamity that had befallen him and he was sorry for his condition. He married her in the month of Ramadhan in the year 3 H. Zainab was 29 years old. He gave a dowry of 12.5 Uqiyah. 1 Uqiyah is equivalent to 40 Dirhams (Ibn Saad: ath-Thabaqat al-Kubra, 8/115).

Household age Mother Zainab bint Khuzaimah radhiallahu ‘anha with Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam does not last long. It only lasts for eight months or less. He died in Medina at the age of 30 (al-Mizzi: Tadzhib al-Kamal, 1/204).
