The Son of the Prophet


We often hear the term Habaib or Sayyid who are descendants of Prophet Muhammad SAW. All descendants of Prophet Muhammad SAW which currently exists are all from Sayyidah Fatimah az-Zahra daughter of His Majesty the Prophet who married Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Talib.


The name Fatimah az-Zahra as the daughter of His Majesty Muhammad is no stranger to Muslims. Because in various records of Islamic history, the name Fatimah az-Zahra is mentioned in various events and events. Likewise, the character of Fatimah az-Zahra as a woman of prayer is widely used as a reference for Muslims. So that the name Fatimah az-Zahra is no stranger as the daughter of his Prophet Muhammad SAW.


But in addition to Fatimah az-Zahra, there are other sons and daughters of the Prophet Muhammad who need to be known by Muslims.


Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani in Syarh Tijan ad-Darori revealed the need for someone to know the names of the children of His Majesty Muhammad SAW based on their numbers. According to him, this is necessary because of the importance of a Muslim to know the leaders of the people.


Meanwhile, his sons of Prophet Muhammad SAW in total number 7 people according to the opinion of the shahih of most members of the nasab. It consists of 3 sons and 4 daughters.


Here are the names of the children of His Majesty Muhammad SAW,



Sayyid al - Qasim bin Muhammad



Prophet Muhammad SAW was once known as Abi Qasim (His father Qasim). This is because Sayyidina Qasim was the first child of the Prophet. Sayyidina Qasim lived to be 17 months old.



Sayyidah Zainab ibn Muhammad



Sayyidah Zainab is the son of Prophet Muhammad SAW after Sayyid al-Qasim. He had experienced the Islamic period, and joined the migration from Mecca to Medina. He died at the age of 29.



Sayyidah Ruqoyah ibn Muhammad



Sayyidah Ruqoyah is the daughter of Prophet Muhammad SAW who is famous for having beauty. He died at the same time as the battle of Badr. Sayyidah Ruqayah died at the age of 22.



Sayyidah Fatimah az - Zahra bin Muhammad



From Fatimah az-Zahra who married Ali ibn Abi Talib, was born Sayyid Hasan and Sayyid Husain. From these two paths, the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad were scattered to this day.



Sayyidah Umm Kulsum bin Muhammad



The name Ummi Kulsum is a kuniyah name or nickname, the original name is not yet known.


Umi Kulsum died 9 years after the hijrah. Prophet SAW once sat beside his grave, his eyes shed tears. Then the Prophet said, "Who among you did not mix with his wife last night?”


Abu Talha said, “I, yes Rasululllah.”


Then, he told her, “Down you.”


Abu Talha went down into the pit and buried Umm Kulthum. So with the election of Abu Talha, who was not a Junub at a previous time, the sanctity of Umm Kulthum was guarded by the Prophet until his body was buried in the ground.



Sayyid Abdullah bin Muhammad



Sayyid Abdullah has the nickname "Thayyib" which means good and "Thahir" which means clean. He was the son of Muhammad and Khadijah. He died when he was a child 



Sayyid Ibrahim ibn Muhammad



Sayyid Ibrahim was the son of the Prophet Muhammad and Maria al-Qabtiyya. He was born at the end of the month of the year 8 Hijri. He was given the same name as Abraham, one of the ancestors of the Arabs and Israel.


He died at seventy nights, some say at seven months old, and others say he was eight months old.


All children of Prophet Muhammad SAW derived from marriage with Siti Khadijah. Except for Sayyid Ibrahim who is the result of marriage with Siti Mariah al-Qibtiyah.
