" Who are you?!" the shrill cry tore through the silence of the night. Lan Zhuxian prepared to draw his sword, "We just happened to pass by. Please put your guns down."
"You guys are supposed to drop the gun! This is our territory!"
Clearly from their faces, none of them were friendly. Just a bunch of rude people talking out loud. Xin Chen walked in the middle of Lan Zhuxian and the three spearmen. "Let us pass."
"No, you can be criminals! Put your weapons down!"
"Then what?" Xin Chen's brain was indeed too sensitive about financial matters, he said in a very thin tone. "You're about to confiscate our weapons and sell them to the gun shop, aren't you?"
The three people exchanged glances uneasily, "You're insulting us too much!"
Xin Chen pointed at the two heirloom swords perched on the waists of two of them, "You can't possibly have those things looking at how you guys are pointing guns. You're just ordinary citizens, not warriors. You're using this land of non-proprietary possessions as your domain to rob people who accidentally pass through this place."
Xin Chen let out a concerned breath. "Unfortunately I also have the same brain as you. About money you can't bargain with me, sir." Then after saying so Xin Chen slightly chuckled.
"Master is indeed great," praised Lan Zhuxian subconsciously. He did not expect these three people to think so. Stealing under the guise of protecting their territory. One of the three men growled like a wolf about to prey on his enemy, he lunged high and thrust his spear towards Xin Chen.
Lan Zhuxian took charge of the fight against three people at once, his shrewdness in controlling the fight could even counterbalance three people at once.
Lan Zhuxian only made the three people faint, not to the point of being battered let alone dead. Xin Chen looked through the contents of their pockets. Just a few pieces of silver that the three of them had. While the settlement behind them did not even have any illumination. Dark accompanying, they slept very, very quickly.
"Where did these people actually come from?"
Lan Zhuxian studied the three people in front of him in detail, he noticed the shabby cloth they were wearing. Maybe before becoming a moustache, the fabric is quite expensive because the material is good.
"Brown skin and rough hands, they're probably loggers. This fabric, the material might be obtained from other empires as well as their facial lines. This was a mixture of the descendants of the original people of the Shang Empire with the Qing empire. It is likely that they are border people who live in the hills. Shangyu Bridge, they came from a village nearby."
Xin Chen stopped his activity listening to Lan Zhuxian's long explanation, inexhaustible with his thinking ability. "It's just that a lot of people don't like you."
"I mean Sir?"
"Only my thought, you speak in great detail. Your words are also too honest, I'm sure that I told you to describe my features, even to the extent that my nose feathers are carrying around."
"I'm sorry, sir."
Xin Chen turned his mind to something else, Lan Zhuxian immediately carried the bodies of the three men under the tree. Avoiding wild animals eating them while unconscious.
"We'll take a look there first, maybe overnight. I have a feeling tonight's gonna be a rain storm." Xin Chen walked down the path to the settlement without waiting for Lan Zhuxian's approval.
Xin Chen approached the corpse, it should have been properly buried but the body was abandoned like a dead animal. Lan Zhuxian pityed to see it, his voice only whispering.
"He bore hunger, this place was a place for those who lost their homes."
There were moans behind the house, no doors in the house and only covered with long shabby cloth so that the wild animals did not see humans in it. Five young children were terrified of each other, they shivered violently when they heard a sound from the front of the dilapidated house.
Having two young men standing in front of them, two of them developed quite severe skin diseases. Lan Zhuxian did not mince words anymore, he immediately thrust out the medicines he had brought from Qingyun City. But as his foot stomped on the floor near the little boy, a trap came. Five rusty blades moved quickly stuck it from the front.
Lan Zhuxian fended it off, noticing when suddenly they had been surrounded by dozens of starving humans. They were stuck in the middle, Lan Zhuxian scanned the surroundings then spoke small words.
"They don't seem to be able to be spoken to very well, Young Master. Let me take care of."
This group of people was quite clever, first they sent three people directly to block. Thinking the three men could have failed, they set up another trap at the expense of the little ones. Xin Chen looked at the little boy before him for a long time. At least he still had the humanity to understand that they were so starving. Tied up like a bait fish to lure a catch.
His calm eyes implied wrath. Behind them the adults in the village had drawn weapons to them. Xin Chen and Lan Zhuxian were outnumbered.
Lan Zhuxian without waiting for the order immediately faced the dozens of people alone, his sword sharpness tearing apart the silence of the night. The young man disliked the bloodshed, so none of his enemies lost their lives
On the other hand the little boy inside the house rushed towards Xin Chen. Hugging his feet, cold and hungry. Xin Chen crouched down, in his eyes these children were just like any other child. They lost their happiness in their childhood. They were frightened by the fierce jungle.
Xin Chen took out some pastries as well as the food he had bought in Qingyun City, they greeted him with a scramble. The young man sat leaning against the nearly collapsed wall.
"Sister, how did you get here? This place is not the right path if you want to travel."
The oldest could finally speak clearly even though his throat was hoarsely choked.
"We took a shortcut. What the hell is going on here?"
The boy lowered his head, staring at the pastry in his hand. Sadness appeared on his face. "We lost ground. We have been moving places for eight months. If not for being chased out, for a beast or a demon. I don't know how far we've moved ... Our parents some are gone, the rest are out of mind filling their own stomachs." He looked at his sister, busy chewing with hunger.
"One of you should have brought this matter to the center. You're from the village on Shangyu Bridge, right?"
The boy shook his head twice, "We've done it dozens of times, the problem now is a lot. We may only be a small part, after all we are nobody in the Empire. Neither do we cry when we are gone."
"I hate our present Empire ..." Xin Chen involuntarily muttered, the boy turned his head towards him.
"One day this wild jungle will be a warm home for you. Hold these words so that you and your sister will live on until that day comes."
