Under the blazing sun, the market was never quiet. Many people are busy buying or selling things in the market.
Jean walked slowly with a bundle of her late father's sword which she tied to the front. He did not dare to tie on his back fearing there was such an unwanted thing as theft. In this world cases of theft often occur, so he needs to be more careful.
"It seems that selling swords is not a good idea, oh what should I do?" jean murmured thinking of a way out.
At the end of the market, Jean's attention was fixed on the large building at the end of the street. There's a big board that says Mission Hall.
In Jean's original memory, the building of the Mission Hall was a gathering place for various tasks or missions related to things outside the great wall.
Only hunters and pickers used to dwell in the Mission Hall. They were a group of people with more courage and strength than the average person.
For ordinary people who mostly had the guts to prefer to stay away from the Mission Hall, they also did not dare to come out one inch from the great wall.
From the memories of the original Jean, this world there are many other intelligent beings besides humans, such as the Vampire Race, demons, demon beasts, elves and many more.
Unfortunately the most numerous occupants in the corners of the world were mindless beasts, but they possessed terrifying attack power.
Humans are the weakest race of all races, therefore humans build a great wall in their territory as a fortress from the attacks of other races or attacks by wild animals.
People who dare to come out of the great wall are only hunters and pickers, hunters are people who are good at fighting and have higher attack power, usually hunters are swordsmen.
While pickers are people with high courage, usually they go out of the wall to pick fruit or medicinal plants that are not inside the wall. They used to go to the fringe forest not far from the wall.
The suburban forest area is chosen by pickers because it is less risky to meet wild animals. The pickers usually form groups in an effort to minimize the danger.
From the results obtained by hunters or pickers in the form of meat, bodies of wild animals, fruit or medicinal plants can be exchanged at the collector section of the Mission Hall or sold in the market.
Jean steps into the Mission Hall building, having the idea of becoming a picker. Fruit or medicinal plants from forests outside the walls could be worth more than the wages of selling themselves.
In Jean's current situation, being a picker is worth trying despite the high level of danger.
The first thing Jean had to do was register to be a picker so she could get out of the big wall.
He applied smoothly without any difficult questions when applying for a job, even he got condolences from the administrative officers because many pickers did not return from the forest, he said, especially a beginner picker like Jean.
Clutching the identity badge of the rookie picker, Jean decides to return home to the shack.
Arriving at the hut, Juno greeted her brother with a worried and curious face.
"Sister, where are you from? I thought you were working, so I looked for you in the rice fields, but I didn't find you there." Juno asked as she grabbed her brother's arm fearing that he would disappear again.
"Calm down, don't worry. Sister from the market buys groceries, look." Jean put a bag of white grain rice on the table, but forgot to put a bag of heavy swords from her chest.
Juno's eyes widened looking at the rice inside the cloth bag.
"Rice, a lot! Why did you buy this much rice? Must have spent a lot of money buying it, what about our debt?" Instead of being happy to see a lot of rice, Juno was increasingly worried that they could not pay off the debt.
"Let's not think about that. Brother wants to talk to you about something Juno." Jean switched the topic.
Juno let out a long sigh, once again giving up even though he was dissatisfied.
Jean made a serious face,
"Juno maybe you disagree, but it's my decision. Look at this, you understand it, don't." Jean shows a round, light green badge with a plant insignia.
"No!!! Brother can't do that, it's too dangerous, please don't." Juno shouted trying to snatch the badge from her brother's hand.
"Juno, stop Juno! Listen first, it's for you too. Rest assured Brother will return safely." Jean dodged, one hand holding his sister's shoulder stopping the action to seize the sister.
It took Jean half a day to speak up to convince her colossal sister to balk if she became a picker.
"Sister has to keep the promise to return safely, I, I don't want to lose you either sister." Juno hugged her brother tightly, tears flowing unceasingly from her eyes dyed blue like the color of the sky.
"Well, I promise, don't cry. Didn't you hear my brother's stomach sounding hungry from earlier?" asked Jean with a relieved smile on her face.
Jean was relieved that Juno was willing to understand and agree to her choice.
"Well then I'll prepare the food first." Juno rubbed her eyes and got up to go to the kitchen.
"Don't forget to cook rice alone, it doesn't need to be mixed with grass seeds." Jean added, to be honest he was very unhappy with the bitter taste of grass seed porridge and the smell of plants.
...
The next day Jean goes to the Mission Hall building again, she studies any plants or fruits that enter the search on the mission board.
Every plant needed, name, shape, features complete with the image clearly stated on the paper attached to the mission board.
The one and a half meter high mission board with a length of almost five meters was full of sought and needed plants. There is also a price that can be exchanged in the collector section.
Although the types of plants and fruit are numerous, Jean memorizes quickly because she has a good memory. From here he knew the flow of plant levels ranging from plants that are found to plants that are rarely found can be distinguished from the exchange price.
"Hello, are you a rookie picker?" greet a young woman with narrow eyes.
"Ah hello, yes I am a beginner picker. Sorry what's wrong?" Jean asked with a faint smile.
The narrow-eyed woman smiled back,
" Yep, my guess is right. Introduce my name Mia, I'm a low-level hunter. I'd like to invite you to join my picker group. We're leaving in the morning, do you want to join us?" Mia explained her point.
"I'm Jean, the pluckers? What about the distribution of the plucking?" Jean could not agree.
If the division of results is unfair with novice hunters like him, he will refuse and look for other groups.
"Oh don't worry, what you pick then that's your share. There is nothing unfair in my group. Take it easy my captain is a good man." Mia explained kindly.
"And you know, my captain is the most handsome of all pickers." Mia blinked one eye after whispering that sentence.
Jean thought 'Honestly in this world I prefer strong leaders over handsome leaders, most handsome men are useless.'
