The Essence Of The Darkness

The Essence Of The Darkness
EOTL eps 48: Fight

Xavier turned his gaze the other way, unwilling to reply to Doctor Nathan's question and letting him hang in the air.

"Bring Sera here. Let us talk," he said later in a flat tone.

Doctor Nathan refused to give up, the man stepped closer to the edge of the bed, forcing Xavier to stare at him.

"If you decide to terminate a child in Sera's womb, then I won't help you. I'll take your hands off all your troubles and never intervene again" he threatened in a half-snarling voice.

Xavier thinned his lips. "Since the beginning, weren't you involved?" teasing him with a cynical tone.

Nathan's forehead wrinkled deep.

"Xavier, this concerns a mother-to-be and the baby in her womb. I can ignore the others. But, when it comes to that one...."

"I will give the best solution for Sera. Even if she's pregnant though, she'll get the best." Slowly Xavier interjected, as if he did not want to listen to Nathan's advice any further.

Nathan looked at Xavier, trying to study his facial expression in order to find what his heart contained, unfortunately he could not find anything.

"What made you change your mind this fast, Xavier?" Nathan finally brings the same question back, giving up trying to figure it out for himself. "Before the stabbing, you were still so eager to impregnate Sera and save your life with the help of the boy. Why is it different now? What triggered you? What's your excuse?"

This time Xavier was finally willing to stare directly at Nathan, his expression seemed full of irony.

"What if I told you that I got a reflection of my own death while I was in a coma?" answer later.

Nathan was stunned for a moment, running out of words to respond.

"I often talk to my patients after they've slipped out of the coma. Most of them do get death-like experiences that are recorded clearly in their memory. But no one ever knows what the brain visualizes when their consciousness is suppressed to the deepest point. It could just be the result of contemplating the human shadow of the realm of death which is then reflected into your subconscious." Nathan squinted, making sure Xavier listened to every word he said. "Getting a real vision of your death doesn't mean you're going to die" he continued.

Xavier tightened his molars.

"I will sever all ties to life so that I can welcome my death" he stubbornly grumbled.

"And throw away your own wife? You married her with full consciousness. Didn't you think about the kid? The son of a Xavier Light who has many enemies who intend to take revenge on you in the future. If you weren't there to protect the boy, what do you think would happen to them?" nathan started to get emotional.

"Because that's why it's best that the boy doesn't materialize." Xavier replied in a cold tone.

"Unmanifested? You know exactly that the chances of the boy being formed are almost a hundred percent. You think I don't know? You have prepared Sera's body as a field that you seeded from the beginning! You gave him the medicine without his knowledge! Medications to boost her fertility and ensure she is perfectly fertilized. How can you just let go of your responsibilities after you force it to form at all costs?" Nathan's voice grew slightly from impatience, but it did not seem to touch Xavier's heart. The man still had a flat expression, as if there was a guardrail fortifying his heart.

"Sera would love to have her freedom. It's not too late." Xavier then spoke his mind with a hardened attitude.

"If the child is already formed, then it is too late. It's the same Sera is already under your responsibility and you can't just throw it away." Nathan answered quickly. "What's your reason for freeing Sera? So he can reunite with Aaron? Is that why you left the antidote serum to heal and free Aaron?" Nathan raised his questions, and was finally able to grin when he didn't get any answers from Xavier.

Trying to calm himself down, Nathan sighed a few times, so when he spoke later, his tone was low emotionlessly.

"You're the smartest person I've ever known, Xavier. But sometimes, your intelligence gets in the way of understanding other people's human behavior. If you release Sera in the condition of conceiving your child, or later when you release her when she has given birth to your child, do you think Aaron will want to accept Sera who is a former other man? His former enemy." Nathan looked back at Xavier's expression, holding back a hint of satisfaction as this time he saw the man stunned at the sentence he had thrown.

"I freed Sera from my clutches until she was free to decide who she was with in her future." Xavier corrected his sentence calmly. Unlike Nathan, he knows Aaron's true colors. The man manipulates Sera into feeling dependent and indebted to her, leading Sera to view Aaron as a rescue angel. While in Aaron's heart, of course the man did not care about Sera and was busy with his own ambitions.

Xavier did not say his knowledge to anyone, for sure, he knew that there was no Sera in Aaron's heart. The man saw Sera as a tool to achieve his goal, as long as Sera could be used and useful, then he would be kind to Sera. Let alone accepting Sera who had been touched, in Sera's untarnished condition, Xavier believes Aaron will prefer other women he considers in accordance with his standards to accompany him.

But actually, Xavier gave the antidote serum to cure Aaron was not to make the man could end up with Sera. He heals Aaron so that Sera is not tied to her past debt regarding Aaron. If Aaron ever saved Sera's life, then now, Xavier will make Sera save Aaron's life. That's all so that Aaron and Sera's position is equally breakeven.

That way, Sera can step up to face her future without being shackled by the heavy chains of her past.

Nathan snorted, then shrugged as he listened to Xavier's last sentence of rebuttal.

"I don't think I can do anything to change your mind. I'll bring Sera here to see you." Nathan bounces off to leave the room, wanting to give Xavier time to rethink.

Sera's heart was pounding as Doctor Nathan specifically pushed a wheelchair to take Sera to Xavier's treatment room. Sera had told the doctor that she could walk on her own, but Nathan insisted on setting up a wheelchair for her and pushing her to drive her.

The doctor even said that Sera better sit in a wheelchair for their safety together. Sera's condition is still weak, and Doctor Nathan even had a joke that until Sera fainted again later, it's better if Sera fainted when she was sitting on a wheelchair alone, he said, so the man just pushed him, didn't have to lift him.

What would Xavier say to him that would make him faint? Is there anything more astounding than the fact that Xavier is going to divorce her?

Sera had already prepared her heart, but still fear crept in her as she was about to face Xavier in a moment. It felt like a sheep was about to be herded into a slaughterhouse, only able to accept an ultimatum, unable to resist fate.

Xavier's treatment room was quiet as usual, only the sound of life support that sounded spontaneous, indicating that Xavier's condition was stable.

Everything was still the same as Sera remembered when she left this room. The difference was, the figure of Xavier who was on the bed at the moment, was opening his eyes, fully aware and instead lying helpless as before.

The night had rolled across the central axis and stepped into the waiting early morning stage, but Sera was sure that none of them thought about sleeping.

Without a sound, Doctor Nathan pushed Sera's wheelchair up close to the edge of the hospital bed. Positioning Sera in the right place so that she could see Xavier's face clearly when they spoke later, and vice versa.

"I think I'll leave you two to have a conversation." Doctor Nathan observes a couple who suddenly seem awkward with each other, and decides that he must give them space.

"Doctor." Xavier turned his head, calling Doctor Nathan to leave. Sera herself observed, that the man had still not looked into his eyes directly since he entered this room.

Doctor Nathan stopped his steps away, frowning in the unexpected that Xavier was going to call out to him.

"What's wrong?" he asked when Xavier did not speak.

"When can you do a blood test the quickest?" Xavier finally welcomes Doctor Nathan's question with a question as well.

Doctor Nathan's eyebrows shot up. Xavier asked for a blood test, for sure it was done on Sera for early detection to ascertain whether the pregnancy was really formed or not.

Does that mean Xavier is rethinking his impulsive decision to divorce Sera all of a sudden? If there is a baby, then everything will be different, right?

A speck of hope springs into the mind of Doctor Nathan, the hope that these two unfortunate people who were stranded together before him, get a rescue boat that unites them instead of scattering them.

"At the earliest 7-9 days after the fertilization process then the test can be done. I'll do blood tests in a row, at least three times to get accurate results" he replied quickly.

"I want you to do it as soon as the circumstances allow, and regarding the result, I also want the accurate results to be released as soon as possible" said Xavier calmly.

Doctor Nathan nodded his head.

"Suppose it has been done," he muttered in passing before then stepping out of the treatment room without saying anything more.

Aaron was actually still in the area around the motel when the ambush came there.

He was hungry and the cooking of the old married couple, the owner of this small motel reserved for motel guests, did not match his tongue at all. That's why Aaron decided to just go out and look for food to fill his stomach.

Sabina herself had left several pieces of money on the table, it seemed that the woman did not remember having done so, she said, but this is of course an advantage for Aaron because he can buy food outside and does not need to be forced to survive with bad food prepared by the motel.

Just going out around the motel wouldn't risk his life, would it? It seems like no one will notice the figure of the man who blends in and buys food from street vendors.

Aaron's face was battered and his lips were swollen from the blow he received from the damn Xavier guards. But he was sure that a dim night, plus the hat he wore, would be enough to disguise his appearance.

The ban from Sabina is to use technology even if only a little because Sabina is confident that with it she will be able to be tracked. While Aaron does not use any technology, so you could say the situation is safe to control.

Casually, Aaron orders food at a street vendor who rolls out his wares right at the motel's side door. He was waiting for his order to be ready, when his eyes saw the dark, black motorcade that had entered the motel parking lot in quick succession.

A bad feeling immediately crept into his mind. The dark cars were too luxurious to stay in the old motel that Sabina had rented for her.

They must be Xavier's men!

In that case, his position would have been discovered. And that means there are only two possibilities. One, Sabina has been caught and interrogated to the point of leaking Aaron's whereabouts, while the second, Sabina may change her mind and no longer want to be on Aaron's side. After all, Aaron's opponent was Xavier, Sabina could have betrayed and chose to be on the strong side, right?

Aaron grimaced, filled with vengeance. All women are the same! Neither Sera nor Sabina, no one can be trusted!

Aaron instantly forgot his hungry stomach, he immediately turned his body around and left his unpaid food order then ran quickly away from the place, deciding to stay as far away as possible from the danger that was chasing him.

"You know why I called you here and asked you to talk." Xavier decided not to make small talk. The man looked at Sera expressionlessly, with his cold, emotionless eyeballs. "I assume you heard our conversation before you fainted."

Sera looked at Xavier sharply, trying to investigate so that she could find a single speck of emotion in Xavier's eyes to hint at Sera what Xavier's heart was like. Unfortunately, he had to meet with confusion because he was unable to find anything there.

"Yes." Yeah." Sera decided to admit it because she knew that there was no point in her lying. His lips trembled as he continued his sentence, "i've heard it."

"good. I don't think I need to explain anymore. I offer you freedom that will benefit you on all sides. There will be none of the aspects of divorce that I offer that will hurt you. You will get full assurance, both in the form of protection guarantees and material benefits guarantees as my ex-wife. That whole guarantee I'll just let go if you get married again." Xavier looked at Sera with a glance, as if it was not important for him to look directly into Sera's eyes when speaking. "If Doctor Nathan makes sure that there's a baby in your womb, then I'll rewind our divorce date to make sure my family name is stuck behind my son's name. The day after you give birth to that child, then I'll officially divorce you."

It was truly magical that Xavier could finish his long sentence without being out of breath. His chest was still painful, but Xavier held it all his might. He even forced himself to speak in a clear voice and slow articulation so that Sera could digest every word he said well.

The pain that pierced his lungs, intercepted him and stopped him as soon as possible, so that it only felt whack on his body, but not until reflected on his face.

Xavier stopped his sentence and only this time did his eyes really look straight at Sera.

"These two versions of the likely agreement clause files are already here. My lawyer has everything ready. You can read it slowly and we can discuss if there's a clause you want to negotiate to change." Xavier pointed towards the nightstand beside his bed, where the documents were neatly stacked there. "Get it, I'll take a break while waiting for you to read and learn it now."

Xavier gave the order as he flicked his hand as if impatiently waiting for Sera to immediately clear her affairs here and leave the room. The man even deliberately closed his eyes, pretending to be closed just because he did not want to look at Sera's presence.

Sera watches Xavier's demeanor with a wounded heart, easing off a sideburn denial of his existence that hurts her heart. He then glanced at the files above the nightstand and finally said,

"No, Xavier."

Sera's voice suddenly rang out, breaking the suffocating silence of the room.

Xavier was shocked to open his eyes immediately, and his own eyes immediately flashed with Sera's eyes staring at him with a fiery determination.

The woman looked frail and sick, so pale and tangled, but somehow it was as if there was a power energy overflowing from her body and fueling her spirit.

"What did you say?" Xavier finally asked. He was still not sure of the meaning of Sera's words.

Sera thinned her lips, looking at Xavier with a burning eye-light, as if wanting to hold back the seething emotions within her soul.

Unexpectedly, it left Xavier spellbound.

Many times Sera was angry, raging, or sulking at him, but only this time Xavier saw Sera in this intensity of emotion, making her so beautiful in Xavier's eyes.

"No, Xavier Light." Sera's eyes were smoldering and her lips were thinning holding the tremors there. "You've forced me, demeaned me, threatened me all you've wanted. But for now, I will not let you throw me away that easily," Sera said then with clenched hands, ready to challenge it all out.
