Ch. 19 - Evaluation (2)
“Start now-”
Strong winds can be seen making the fire on each hand blazing Max very intense.
“-I'll be serious.”
Along with his declaration that seemed to echo throughout the arena stadium, he then smiled cunningly wide and put up his sturdy horses.
Two cadets faced each other in an arena, a giant screen mounted on the evaluation stadium and the audience focused on the two cadets.
I saw everything from the audience seats, it seems that Max finally used his flagship skill, which was [Overclock].
A skill that makes me and basically all Awakeners feel jealous if they know the existence of the skill.
A skill that could improve one or even more basic stats and Awakener skills, in contrast to [Body Strengthening] which could only increase the overall Awakener's basic stats.
Max deftly began his assault. Of course Clara would not stand still, after she had slammed Max into the ground, she summoned a part of a different spirit, now seen a pair of arms and a head hovering in the arena.
Thinking about Clara's attack on Max earlier, Max looks to frown his forehead like holding back the pain.
It seemed like there was something inside her body, my best guess was that it was the act of the Mimic Parasite. A parasite that makes Max its host in interweaving symbiotic mutualism.
While I was thinking this it was, the sound of fighting sounded. The two cadets demonstrate control over their awesome magical abilities.
It was then that I realized the fact that made me laugh, the fact that the crazy boy had opened his first chakra point.
“Why are you laughing at Tristan?”
Zetto and Lilith gave an expression wondering to see me laughing out loud.
“No, it's just that crazy kid really opened his chakra point.”
Hearing my statement they both opened their eyes wide, and at that moment a very loud bang was heard all over the stadium.
-BROUCH!!!
There we and the other cadets were again surprised, Max's punch making contact with the blow from the spirit's hand.
then the two spirit arms continuously exchanged blows with Max which produced a barrage of sounds like a deafening explosion.
The shock wave resulting from the exchange of blows clearly showed how violent the hits were.
Shortly thereafter, the pair of spirit arms began to look unable to maintain their shape and with Max's continuous attacks hitting, the spirit arm was crushed helplessly.
Haaaaa, that crazy kid, did the attack without using any special tactics or techniques. Only with raw strength could he defeat the two arms of the giant spirit.
Clara was surprised to see that, but swiftly and raised her magic wand which made the head of the giant spirit exhale a very strong wind from her mouth towards Max.
Max smiled widely and easily dodged the attack, then Clara made magic circles with an incredible amount.
It didn't take long until various kinds of magic filled the arena and charged towards Max.
The people in the stadium including us couldn't stop staring at the arena where Max and Clara were dueling.
The duel between the other cadets who were also in progress the difference looked like heaven and earth.
“Wohooo! Max!”
“Clara!”
As a result they seem to get more fans from each side.
Max appears to have dodged and annihilated the attacks very skillfully, then he appears to jump high and use his momentum to strike by kicking towards Clara like a fiery meteor.
BOOM!!
However, right at that very moment, a spirit with a half-giant female form was seen hugging Clara from behind to protect her.
Then the spirit opened its mouth and chanted a melody that summoned sword eyes made of wind.
Max inevitably backs down and avoids these attacks.
Lilith then asked me and Zetto.
“Hmmm, hard to determine anyway, in my opinion-”
Before Zetto could finish his answer, I cut the conversation.
“Max, Max will win.”
Lilith raised her eyebrows then asked me again.
“How do you know?”
“Only a guess, a guess based on my knowledge and experience in fighting together and dueling with him.”
The Max I know in [World of Magic and Might] is terrible, even though Clara is a great spiritualist but I don't think she is comparable to Max, so I believe in my guess.
Hearing my reply, Lilith nodded and then we focused again on the arena that was in front of us.
“Wah, I'm fed up with your magic and spirit tricks, now it's my turn to do a trick.”
Along with Max's words, he then raised and opened his two fiery arms wide and bent down and hit the arena floor, producing waves of fire that blazed towards Clara.
Clara, who saw this, raised her staff, which ordered the spirit of the giant woman to let out a giant wave of water to counter Max's attack.
-Swoosh
The waves of fire and water then violently collided with each other, creating steam that filled the arena and blocked the view of us and the other spectators.
- BELLY!
“Ugh!!”
Soon a loud bang and Clara's groans of pain were heard.
The sound of the fight was heard behind the vapors.the sound of the release of magic, the chanting of melodies from the spirit Clara called out, the loud lashing.
Me and the rest of the audience wondered about what had happened to the two cadets. The lights from the casted magic can be seen coloring the vapors in the arena.
The time lapse felt very long, finally the steam thinned so that the audience could see what was happening above the arena.
It was seen that the injured Clara kneeled down her wand and Max who looked down on Clara was smiling.
Clara then looked at Max sharply and helplessly on the floor of the arena, suddenly professor Hiroki came and raised Max's hand then said,
“In this intense duel, Max Goldwel came out as the strongest! Give a standing ovation to our winner!”
When I got up, Zetto, Lilith, and the rest of the audience got up from their seats and clapped at the incredible duel we were watching.
“What the fuck was that?”
“It's a shame we can't see the fight of his last part.”
Finally the medical team came to the arena and checked the two cadets, before long Clara was seen being carried on a stretcher and Max headed to the exit.
Of course Max did not come out without a cut, blood and bruises were seen covering him especially on his hands.
Then he looked at us, no, he looked at me and smiled and turned his face forward as before.
From then on I swore to myself to forget the grudge for going to the banquet and focus on making this crazy kid my ally.
In the end, the entire evaluation duel of the first session cadets ended, so that the cadets who would fight in the second session were announced through giant screens in the stadium.
‘Hmmm, let's see who will fight in the second session. Oh, my name is!’
‘Who is my opponent? Lilith Beauviolth!?’
That was what was on my head as I stared at the shocked screen, subconsciously I turned towards Lilith who happened to be turning towards me as well.
It seemed like the storyline for this world was completely deviated from the original.
