Fucking castelombers.
The night before Layla was so excited by her new findings, convinced that it was the breakthrough she needed to break the William De Relincourt puzzle.
After a day of searching and digging, he now felt almost as dumb as before he heard the name of the damn place. He called Cambridge, hoping to speak to Professor Magnus Topping, but only to be told by the meek and fond Porter to interfere in other people's affairs that the Professor has no phone (“His ringing voice disturbs him, Bu”) and does not also have an e-mail address (“More fun on its typewriter, Bu”).
“So how can I communicate with him?” he asked, imagining an unfriendly smart man with a cigarette pipe confined in a work space full of books, completely forgetting the outside world.
“Yahh, Ma'am,” The Porter replied he seemed to want to insinuate “Mother” polite but humble in every sentence “You can write to him even, between you and me only, between you and me, he was never good at answering letters. Or you just come and knock on the door, which is usually the best way to meet him.”
“I called from Jerusalem.”
“Ah. Wellh, then, this will be a problem, won't it Bu?” With Topping's options close to him, he returned to the internet. Unlike William De Relincourt, Castelombres is hardly depicted on the web, half the day spent searching and cross-referencing failed to add information to the six short pairs he had found the previous night (The sixth was instead the Castelombres Sanitary Porcelain company in Antwerp). Among the other five, one is a truncated pedigree that has given Layla a connection to the Esclarmonde De Rolincoeur; the other is a rather poor translation of the French Academic Article on the tradition of the troubadours (singers or poets touring castles or castles) of Languedoc in the twentieth century; the other is a site dedicated to the history of Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism; later there is a footnote to an Article on a medieval Jewish scholar named Rashi; and the last is a reference in the section “Collapse that is Angker” from the site titled “France Hidden.”
From here Layla can pick up various pieces of information scattered, dim rays that are random from a wider mystery. However, it was not the secret opening he had hoped for. Rather, far from helping to clarify the entire matter with regard to William De Relincourt, Castelombres's instructions seemed to only aggravate the situation, adding a new and confusing vantage point to the image that has resembled Braque's obscure composition and jumbled up a bunch of different elements that all hint at something significant without completely changing themselves himself into a form he could recognize.
He leaned forward and looked at the note before him, wondering what to do with all this, to which part of the earth he would be brought.
Castelombres
“Shadow” Castle. The Comptes De Castelombres. The castle destroyed the crusade of Cathar 1243 only a few ruins remain (Oh my God!) Dept Arriege's. The village of Castelombres 3 km. The Esclarmonde De Rolincoeur (Relincourt).
No biographical details remain. Famous for being smart, beautiful, generous, and others.
A popular figure in the tradition of singers and poets traveling around the castle.
Bona Domna Esclarmonda, Contessa Castelombres, Era Bella E Entendia Esclarmonda La Blanca (Lord of the Esclarmonde/He is beautiful and wise/Esclarmonde the White). Jaufre Rudel (1125-48) Occitane. C. important learning centers. Famous for religious tolerance. Many Jewish scholars. Cabbala. “Lo Private de Castelombres” Secret Castelombres. References in singers and poets traveling around the castle. Esclarmonde si “protector”. No one is sure what the real secret is.
What frustrates him is that he knows he has made significant progress. The link is too tight, the similarities are too sharp, to make it just a mere coincidence. In his mind there is no doubt that the White esclarmonde is the same as the Esclarmonde to which William de Relincourt addressed his coded letter, also about C and Castelombres castle being one and the same. And if all the pieces are matched then it is quite reasonable to suspect that “Authoric material of great power and beautiful” is related to this mysterious “Declaration of Castelombres”.
More than that, Layla seems unable to advance anymore. He had contacted a number of experts at the Hebrew University, including Gershom Scholem, Professor Cabbala, who added a few touches of the line to the overall picture: Castelombres did not merely attract Jewish scholars, he told Layla, but, instead, from the mid-twelfth century, it appeared to be a special site for Jewish worshipers. However, why and what, when any, relation to William de Relincourt or the so-called “Party of Charity from Cathars” remains entirely unclear. It was as if he had jumped over a vast abyss only to be slammed into a stone wall.
He read all his notes over and over again, then picked up a printout of St.'s web page. John’s College History Society that he created the night before, and reread. In this bright and colorful long piece of writing, Professor Topping explains how his research on the note of questions about the thirteenth century has revealed an unexpected connection between Cathars Treasure and the so-called “Rahasia Castelombres”. The more he thinks about this the more he is convinced that Topping is the key; that he can surf the internet constantly, calling every expert, that, but without speaking directly to Professor Topping he would never move forward with all this. And from what the campus guard said, the only thing that allowed him to talk to Topping was to get on a plane and fly to England.
“NOT POSSIBLE,” he murmured. “Really impossible.” Although he said so, it turned out that he immediately set aside the print and began to open the page of his address book, looking for the phone number of his travel agent, Salim.

Returning to his Office, Ben-Roi gulps Brandi from his waist bottle and sees a three-quarters page report on the computer screen that is in front of him. He has been, he is grounded, doing whatever might be expected of him. She had interviewed Old Woman at Ohr Ha-Chaim; called Kfar Shaul to ask more about Margareth's twin brother (deally still alive, even in “Very disturbed”); even contacted Yad Vashem to confirm that Margaret had actually been a worker there (and indeed yes, part-time, in the archive department).
