They were silent for a while. Miles stabbed Kirana with a sharp look, while the woman looked in another direction besides Miles. He couldn't back down anymore, he had to face it and say his final answer. Miles might have another opinion, but for Kirana, his opinion was the best.
“I will put my resignation letter tomorrow morning on your desk.” Kirana.
“It's up to you. I still have perfume and soap left at home. I can wear it to accompany me.” Miles walked back a few steps away from him.
Perfume and soap? Does that mean Miles won't let his memories go from his life? He wants to live with his shadow? What is that man thinking? Is he trying to change his mind by cultivating his sympathy? He's not gonna make it. He can't make it.
“Don't do this to me, Miles.” Kirana pleads.
Miles stopped an empty taxi. He gives Kirana's suitcase to the taxi driver to put in the trunk. Kirana just looked at him and did not try to approach him. The man nodded in understanding.
“Goodbye, Kirana.” Miles got into his car. He left without looking back at her again.
With her body shaking, Kirana got into the taxi. After mentioning the address, the driver turns on the argo and runs a taxi. It took him more than two hours to stop at a store and arrive at his home. It's not his house, it's just a rented house. But he lived there for six years. He saw his son sitting on a chair on the porch while looking towards the street.
“Mommy, Mommy.” welcome William who immediately ran up to him as soon as he got out of the taxi. Kirana laughed happily. Maybe having William is not enough. But he was his only one right now.
“Hi, baby.” Kirana knelt down and opened her hands wide. As soon as William was in his arms, he kissed her blond hair. “Are you waiting for me?”
“I am. I miss you.” her son said in a soft voice.
“I miss you too, sweetheart.” reply Kirana. He then felt his chest ache remembering Miles' favorite word specifically for him. Sweetheart.
“My name is Will, not sweetheart or baby.” protest William as usual.
“Okay, okay.” Kirana laughed a little.
“Hai, Mom. I'm sorry. Will won't listen to me. He just ran out of the fence. Fortunately, no car is passing.” said Helen was full of regrets.
“Not a problem, Helen. I know he's like this when he misses me.” Kirana let go of her embrace and stood up. “Do you want to go home?” He looked towards Helen's backpack. William was holding tightly onto Kirana's jeans.
“Iya, Mom. If there is nothing else I need to do.” he said expectantly. There was nothing more he needed to do, not now or later. But Kirana did not say it.
“Good. Thank you for keeping Will.” Kirana gave him an envelope. His salary for having been looking after William for as long as he was gone. Helen accepted it with pleasure.
“Sama-sama, Bu.” Helen said as she stuffed the envelope into her jeans pocket. “Daah, Will.”
“Daah, Miss Helen.” William waved his hand.
Kirana pays a taxi, drags her suitcase with one hand, and carries a plastic bag with her other hand. William who was still holding Kirana's jeans walked beside her. Then he put a padlock on the fence. William smiled happily as they were near the house. Obviously she felt very relieved that her mother was not leaving anymore. Kirana opened the door of the house and let her son in first. William immediately went in and climbed the stairs.
After locking the door, Kirana placed the key inside the wooden box on the small table. He sat on one of the sofas while gently massaging his legs. Finally, he arrived home. There is no place more comfortable than at home.
Quickly he threw away that thought. No. gabe. He must forget what happened. What happened in Singapore remains in Singapore.
“Mommy, Mommy, look!” William ran small while carrying a picture book in his hand.
“What is this?” ask Kirana. A picture. A long black haired woman with curls at the end of her hair was holding a blonde boy. I love my mommy on top of their heads. “I love you too, sweetheart.”
“Will, Mommy.” protest again.
“Okay. I love you too, Will.” Kirana kisses her son's cheek. William framed his face with his two small hands and then kissed his lips. A pair of bright blue eyes brought him back to Miles.
I love you, Kirana. Again he threw away that thought. Why did those memories keep filling his mind?
“I also drew Nemo.” William pointed to the paper behind the first. Kirana smiled looking at the picture of a fish that looked more like a pufferfish.
“I have a surprise for you.” Kirana rolled her eyes.
“Oh, yes? You remember my birthday, Mom?” ask William expectantly.
“Of course.” Kirana stood up and walked towards her room. William followed her from behind. He took out a large box from the top of his wardrobe. His son rounded his eyes.
“You bought a gift according to my order?” tanyanya was impatient.
“Iya.” Kirana gave the box to her son. William opened his card. His eyes were round looking at the contents inside. She cheered happily then hugged her mother tightly.
“Thank you, Mom. I love you, I love you, I love you!” cheer William.
“Happy birthday, Will Bradford.” Kirana made her eyes realize what she had just said. He named Miles after his son. It seemed William was too happy with the gift he received so he did not hear his words. Kirana gave a sigh of relief.
“You bought a cake?” William loosened his arms and looked at his mother's eyes. Kirana nodded happily.
“Iya.” Kirana stood up and extended her hand to William. The boy grabbed it. “Come, we spend.”
“I want cheese and blueberry cupcakes.” William said cheerfully.
“I bought that flavor some fruit.”
They sit on chairs that surround the dining table after washing their hands. Kirana took out a big box of plastic and opened it. William wet his lips with his tongue. Kirana laughs amusedly. He placed two of William's favorite cupcakes on his plate. With food, his son ate it. Kirana allowed him to eat four and save the rest for the next day. He himself only ate one due to loss of appetite.
She read a storybook to her son in bed. William asked many questions each time he discovered something new from what Kirana had read. He answered patiently. A few minutes later, the boy fell asleep. Kirana smiled. He fixed the location of his son's blanket and kissed his forehead fondly.
They're gonna be fine. No matter what happens, Miles can't tell you where his son is. He would definitely be furious at him as he felt at his late wife. Kirana will not be able to face it. If the man takes his son away from him, he'd rather die.
