The Legend of the Devil

The Legend of the Devil
Ch. 209 - The Figure in the Mist

The living room with a small, beautifully engraved table, facing a large window that radiates sunlight into the room looks silent for a while.

The small table was filled with luxurious ornaments, like a crystal vase filled with fresh flowers that exuded a fragrant aroma. Around it, there were small candles burning with sparkling flames, giving a soft glow that surrounded the room. Several beautiful bronze statues and intricate wood carvings also decorate the table.

On the walls of the room hang beautiful stork paintings. The paintings depict the elegance of a stork flying over a calm lake, symbolizing freedom and peace. Every detail in the painting looks alive, with a soft brushstroke depicting heron feathers that look like real ones.

In addition, some additional decorations are also seen in the room. A pair of chandeliers made of sparkling crystals on the ceiling of the room, reflected the light that created a sparkle throughout the room. Thick and soft carpet covers the floor, giving a warm and comfortable feel when stepping inside this room. Of course someone in it is not just anyone. He had abundant wealth and thousands of followers with him.

But all that luxury was never enough to make his life calm. Not for a second did he seem to be breathing peacefully. His fingers were always tapping the table repeatedly while thinking day and night.

The man in the black robe and fox mask heaved a heavy sigh, feeling the uneasiness that had been making his sleep uneasy lately while wondering in his heart, "Who is that swordsman? What does he want? Why is everyone talking about him?"

Until the unrest was seen by a figure who had just arrived in his private room. Pay attention to the movements of men who usually never feel anxiety in his life.

He lived in careful preparation, with no gaps, everything was perfect. His complicated and enigmatic way of thinking made all the plans he had prepared go so smoothly.

But the minor shocks of late have troubled him.

"Can I help you, Chief?"

He looked back, flicking his large black robe before sitting in front of a low table. Enjoy the warm drink that has been provided while talking with the young man.

"Have you heard of the White Mask Swordsman?" the question is right on target. His interlocutor did not issue a response for a moment, recalling the many enemies he had subverted before finally issuing a short answer.

"No."

"I got a warning from 'them' ... He is an enemy to watch out for."

Then, in the sudden rush of footsteps that rushed into the room, his confidants bent to their knees and bowed obediently. He only spoke when the man allowed it.

"Bad news, Chief. The group you sent south where our old headquarters found a great mess. An extremely dense massive amount of power destroyed the base entrance. Some places were piled up by the cracks and in one day it lost some dead members in the heap."

He continued seriously. "The power is immense and keeps the basement buried. Looks like the underground team is dead. We have been searching and have not found who caused the destruction ..."

The fox mask man stomped his fist on the table. Making plates and glass cups vibrate makes a noise.

"That's what you call bad news? You want to add to my mind?"

He raised one hand, in his palm appeared a pitch-black aura that instantly made the man shiver.

"Bu-no, Chief. I don't mean the death of our members. Rather than the Fifth Light, Chao Mi," he said stuck at the end of his mouth when suddenly the man got up from his seat and walked towards him.

"Why is he still there? Shouldn't the place no longer be operational? I've told him to vacate the place," his tone rose. His voice growled deeply.

"It seemed like the Fifth Light was indeed deliberately waiting in that place. We haven't got clarity, Chief. What do we do?"

"Tell the First Light and have him take care of his own men!" fierce jolt. He sat back with a more agitated voice than before.

Before long the man with the fox mask ordered his errand boy to call one of the higher-ups of the group who had access to a lot of information

The higher-ups of the group in question entered the room where the man with the fox mask was waiting for him. The higher-ups bowed their bodies respectfully, respecting the presence of the man with the fox mask.

The higher-ups wisely told him everything he knew about Chao Mi's life, including the connections and enemies she might have. He provided useful clues and eyewitnesses who may have had information about the deaths.

The man with the fox mask listened carefully, listened to every word and connected the important points.

After careful discussion, the group leaders finally came to an important conclusion. They concluded that Chao Mi's killer was still in the Feng Empire.

With the serious voice of the higher-ups giving the message, in order to kill the assassin themselves they need to set up a trap. they must search for the most powerful enemy there is. He knew who the answer to all of this was.

"I think that one Light will be very interested in this news..."

The bigwigs nodded.

"You can go" he said. Respectfully the higher-up was quiet, leaving the two who were a few seconds drifting in silence. The man thought hard and considered many things.

"I know he's enough but I think that person could be more dangerous than expected."

For a moment his attention was distracted at the young man before him and ordered him immediately.

The young man nodded obediently, "There will not be a single life that survives this sword, Chief."

The man's anxiety was slightly dissipated when he saw his combat weapon which was none other than the young man himself. "You never let me down."

The young man moved, but suddenly he held back.

"One more thing" he said, "Find out about the White Swordsman and kill anyone with the mask. Don't let him live even if he's our own friend."

"Good."

**

The misty valley took him far into a place that humans rarely entered.

Xue Zhan limped for several days walking alone within the cold fog.

The white mask he usually wore had disappeared out of nowhere and part of his clothes were covered in blood. His poor and shabby condition made him look like a bum.

In a sudden moment, the power within his body was overwhelming and uncontrollable. He had destroyed Dongyang with just his demonic power, it was inconceivable how much destruction he had wrought a few days ago. Xue Zhan many times almost lost consciousness and the Devil of Sin took over his body.

He tried his hardest to stop the flow of his strength until it injured an important part of his body.

Thinking that way he could stop the growth of the demon inside him. But it hurt itself.

Xue Zhan wanted to find Xiang Yi Bai, yet he himself did not know where the man was and they had already separated very far. All he can do now is survive.

Chao Mi is dead. Xue Zhan was now dying by his own strength. His feet were numb, blood splattered on the ground he passed through until the young man fell on the grass helplessly.

He looked back at the foggy sky. Feeling the coldness of the wind caressed his tired face. His chest went up and down. Xue Zhan was unable to stand up.

It suddenly felt a power so strong and dangerous. It was almost like the power that Chao Mi possessed. Xue Zhan was threatened considering he was still in the Dongyang region where the old headquarters of the Red Taring had been. This fog valley should have been the boundary between Dongyang and the region after.

That incredible ice strength made Xue Zhan feel depressed and have difficulty breathing. Each step felt heavy as if it was being held back by the presence of a strong air. The wind blew fiercely, bringing a piercing chill to the bone.

As he stepped further into the valley, the power of the ice grew more intense. He felt an increasingly intense pressure, like a burden placed on his shoulders. His body froze bit by bit, while each breath felt as if it had been stopped by the presence of ice power surrounding him.

the power was getting more and more pronounced, approaching towards him. Xue Zhan's heart skipped a beat. He really did not have the strength to fight and now his body was also covered in wounds.

The sound of feet stopped in front of him. It seemed like today was Xue Zhan's unlucky day. Because when he slightly raised his head to see who stopped there he saw a girl with a cross mask and all-white clothes.

Adrenaline's racing fast. End the story today. The girl is a disciple of Chao Mi, no longer wrong. He killed his teacher.

'Does he know that and look for me? Good, after another troublesome Devil Sin enemy came back at an inopportune moment.

"Pathetic," said the girl contemptuously.

Xue Zhan did not wear a mask at all, it was certain that the girl recognized him.

No words could come out of his mouth other than the sound of a heavy gasp of breath. The girl could have directly used the power of light and made her bounce far away to a broken bone. Given that five years ago alone he already possessed a mighty power, now his strength was definitely crazier than the last time.

No matter what luck saved her, the girl just passed by leaving her grumbling, "Scented bubble, ugly, may your corpse be quickly eaten by maggots. Still lucky my mood is so good, if I don't break your neck."

The girl left so quickly from his sight, a carefree chant sounded that grew further and further away.

Xue Zhan goosebumps.

Indeed his face was filled with mud and blood, plus a thick fog that blocked the view that made him unable to recognize Xue Zhan.

Xue Zhan was stunned for a few minutes because of his shock. He could only catch his breath afterwards.

"It seems he doesn't know his teacher is dead yet. I have to leave before they come after me."

Xue Zhan recovered and decided to continue his journey to the region adjacent to Dongyang, disguised among the people of that place.

Right after night fell dozens of suspicious people were wandering around everywhere like looking for someone. Xue Zhan managed to find a place in a house by pretending to be a vagrant, the house owner who was a good-natured master let him stay in the stables for a while.

At least until the Red Taring subordinates stopped looking for him and Xue Zhan found a way to overcome the demonic power within his body.
