Eight Months Later
Khaira's lecture is getting closer to its final stage. Not only faced with a busy summer lecture schedule, Khaira was also preparing the Thesis that he had submitted to the Head of the Thesis Bureau.
Undergoing solid lectures and also filing his Thesis, making Khaira spend more time in the Library of the campus. Khaira looked around and studied the Thesis format from the University of Manchester. Sometimes he also looked at books that he would use as references and deepened his theoretical studies.
Not only his college is crowded, Khaira's steps to take Thesis faster than his classmates also make Khaira must force himself to run farther and faster.
"Khai, why do you want to graduate faster?" asked Adam who was sitting next to Khaira when their course hour was over.
"I miss my family in Indonesia, Adam. It has been a year since I returned to Indonesia" Khaira replied as she looked at Adam.
Adam just shook his head, "So your goal is to speed up to take Thesis because you want to go back to Indonesia and meet your parents?" Adam asked while slashing his eyes.
"Yes, that's right Adam. I miss my Father and Mother and my two in-laws. His smile lives in a foreign land, still misses my hometown." he replied seriously.
Adam laughed, "Say you feel homesick. Is your husband here still not enough?"
"Whoa. As a child, I miss my parents." Silent moment. "I'm sure my parents miss me too. We often make video calls. But home kangen tastes."
Only a moment did Khaira stop talking about Mark and Tina's turn to follow Adam and join Khaira.
"So you're gonna pass ahead of us, Khai?" Tina asked as she took a seat in front of Khaira.
Khaira simply smiled, "Not necessarily. I still have to fight to finish my Thesis."
Adam cuts off Khaira and Tina's talk. "She took Thesis first because she was missing her parents. I miss his hometown. Funny right?"
Mark also spoke. "Before you never lived far from your parents? After marriage you still live with your parents?"
"I went with my husband right away after marrying him, yes but I'm still in one city. On weekends, I can visit them sometimes. Now that we're in a different world, it's worth it that I miss my parents." Khaira answered honestly.
No matter how far we are in a foreign land, the longing and desire to return to the Fatherland will never be separated from the heart. And that is what Khaira is feeling right now. Missing both parents and in-laws, longing for traditional Indonesian cuisine, even longing for the city of Jakarta with all the hustle and bustle.
Tina also grabbed the shoulder of her best friend, "Patience a little more, if you finish working on Thesis just wait for graduation and then you can go home. I also sometimes feel that way, longing for the fragrant smell of the earth when the rain arrives in my country, longing for Parata Kol which arouses appetite, he said, miss the fine dust that daily envelops the city of Mumbai. I'm just like you."
Khaira rested for a moment her head on Tina's shoulder. "Thanks Tina, you understand how I feel. That's how I feel right now."
"I know, because I'm also far from family. There are days when you miss them so much. There are days where you can hang on and it's like the day's going fine. However, at least here you have a good husband and certainly can entertain you, right?" Tina speaks and tells little that in a foreign land and so far from home this Khaira is not alone.
Khaira began to smile, yes what Tina said was true, here she was not alone Radit who accompanied her every day, presenting jokes, fighting, and making jokes, even the man was also involved to take care of the apartment they lived in.
"Okay, okay. I will no longer be sad, but I will still complete my Thesis as soon as possible. You don't want to graduate with me?" Khaira asked her three friends with eyes that looked one by one at the face of her best friend.
"You graduate first, I want to relax here" Mark said.
"I'll try Khai, I'll try to propose a Thesis too. Because my father in Singapore was waiting for me" Adam said.
"I will try too, Khai. But, of course I just try as much as I can." said Tina.
Khaira looked one by one at the face of her best friend. "So only Mark will be relaxing here? Okay, fine. Adam and Tina, hopefully we can fight together. Support each other." Khaira said excitedly as she clenched her hands together.
"Khai, you're on campus until this early? Not home? What if your husband's waiting?" Tina again asked Khaira, because usually Khaira is the most diligent to go home once the course hours are over, but now until afternoon Khaira is still in the Library.
"Oh, yes. I forgot the time. I'll call him."
Khaira took the phone from her bag. A message came from Radit. The man picked her up five minutes ago.
"Guys, I go home first huh? It's been picked up." Khaira said goodbye to her friends.
Apparently the three friends also followed Khaira to go home, all day they had attended college until stranded in the Library, now they certainly choose to go home and rest.
In front of the campus, Radit was standing and observing students passing by there, until finally his eyes saw that Khaira was walking with his three friends.
Khaira smiled looking at her husband from a distance. Similarly to Radit, he smiled and his heart was relieved after seeing Khaira.
"Have you waited a long time?" Khaira asked when she was in front of her husband.
"Five to ten minutes there is. Want to go home now?" tanyakanya.
"Yes.." answered Khaira quickly. A day on campus and long hours at the Library made it very painful.
Eventually Khaira chooses to say goodbye to her friends and walks home with Radit.
The man immediately knitted his hand, tightly grasping Khaira's hand. "Where is college today? Tired?" tanyanya with her footsteps continued to walk down the road to her apartment.
"Capek Mass ... Banget. Wanted to take a shower and sleep, my eyes are so tired." Khaira narrowed her eyes looking at Radit.
"Yes, I'll go on a massage, let's get tired of it. I've brewed tea before coming here, so that once you get to the apartment, you can have tea" he said, embracing his wife's shoulder.
"Hmm, thank you very much Maskuw ...."
"Sama-sama My wife ...."
