Supposedly, Duan Yarong was Zhao Youlin's aunt and Joy should have called her Madam Zhao. Meanwhile, the word "grandmother" was meant for Zhao Youlin's mother. The meaning becomes very different because they are not blood related.
When Joy called Duan Yarong's grandmother, she froze. The next moment, he became so excited that words could no longer describe him.
She pulled Joy from Zhao Youlin onto herself while crying. Then, he held Joy's little face and said while shuddering, “Good child, good child.”
Joy tilts her head and stares at her "grandmother" whose eyes are red with tears in the puzzle. 'Why does grandma look like she's going to cry? Did I do something wrong?’
As Joy thought about it, she turned her head anxiously and sought help from Zhao Youlin by looking at her.
Zhao Youlin noticed her son's precious nervousness. He reached out to caress her head and said, “Grandmother likes you, Joy. Don't you think you should return his affection? Otherwise, he'll be sad."
Joy felt relieved when she heard Zhao Youlin's words. He immediately put on his sweetest smile and took the initiative to wrap his hands around Duan Yarong's neck. He said calmly, “Grandma, I like you too. Don't be sad.”
While saying this, Joy sniffed and her eyes twinkled. Then, she exclaimed happily, “Grandmother, you smell like buttercakes! I like it too!"
“Pfff..”.
Ironically, Duan Yarong hugged the child. The smell of her milk reached her and she said she smelled like butter cake. He didn't know if he should laugh or cry.
He reached out and pinched Joy's round face. He teases her, “Joy, are you sure I smell like buttercakes? Or are you stealing cupcakes and the smell is all over your body?”
Zhao Youlin was also tempted by the shocking statement of her son. She touched her nose with her index finger, smiling faintly as she said, “The oldest aunt, don't listen to her. He is greedy and loves to eat. He had just eaten some fruit before we came. How could he be hungry so fast, really a pig!”
Joy reacted as soon as she heard her mother say that about her. He held Zhao Youlin's hand and protested, “I'm not a pig. You, Ma!”
Zhao Youlin and Duan Yarong were stunned. Their eyes met each other and they laughed together.
Joy was puzzled when she saw two adults laughing out of nowhere. Apparently, he did not understand why the two of them had suddenly become so happy.
The dull initial atmosphere between the two disappeared after Joy's interruption.
Duan Yarong could not help but hug Joy and kiss her. She said happily, “Alright, you are not a pig, your mother. Joy, are you hungry? I've had afternoon tea and drinks that were just sent here not long ago. Come and see if you like them. But, do not eat too much because you still have to eat more at the banquet. Otherwise, you can't taste a delicious cake if you're full.”
Joy's eyes sparkled when she heard Duan Yarong. He turned his head and glanced at Zhao Youlin with a questioning look.
After getting Zhao Youlin's approval, Joy said to Duan Yarong seriously, “Grandmother, my stomach is big and can be filled with lots of good food. So, don't worry about me, Grandma.”
Duan Yarong froze. He involuntarily let out another laugh and pulled Joy into his arms. He said adoringly, "You have such a huge appetite, how can you still deny that you are a pig?"
“No...No...” Joy puffed up chest and wanted to reply. Instead, Zhao Youlin pinched her little face, which had gotten rounder ever since they left the Mu family.
Joy became dejected after hearing Zhao Youlin's words. He pulled up Zhao Youlin's sleeve and said pitifully, “Bu, I won't eat too much anymore. Don't leave me..”
Zhao Youlin was speechless.
As the saying goes, all grandparents love their grandchildren very much. When Duan Yarong first saw Joy, she felt she was very pleasant to him, and the feeling grew stronger after they interacted more with each other. How she wanted to hold him forever.
Therefore, when Duan Yarong saw Joy feeling sad, she immediately switched sides and gave some of her thoughts to Zhao Youlin. “How can you say this to a child out of nowhere?! Kids can easily take it seriously!”
The next moment, he took Joy apart from Zhao Youlin's reaction and said to her lovingly, “Don't listen to your mother. If she can't raise you, I will. I'll take you for a drink now."
Zhao Youlin touched her nose awkwardly after being reprimanded by Duan Yarong. He involuntarily sighed as he looked at their silhouettes and thought, "Did he forget about his son after knowing his grandson?"
Come to think of it, that's a good thing.
Zhao Youlin looked at the close relationship between Duan Yarong and Joy from afar. This was the first time he had felt .. warmth since he was reborn.
Zhao Youlin enjoyed afternoon tea with Duan Yarong. Although it was late, it was served as an appetizer before the banquet began.
“The oldest aunt, you can take down Joy first and let her take it herself,” Joy inevitably says it when she sees Joy still in Duan Yarong's arms.
"It's okay, I don't mind hugging her." This was the first time Duan Yarong had embraced a child at such a young age.
He felt excited and, how could he possibly let go so easily? Zhao Youlin saw that Duan Yarong adored Joy very much. So, he didn't say anything else.
They chatted with each other until Duan Yarong asked about Zhao Youlin's current residence since her divorce with Mu Tingfeng.
Zhao Youlin replied honestly with no intention to hide from him, “That person is quite generous to us. I didn't leave him and the house penniless. Instead, he has left me a decent amount of money and an apartment. So, Joy and I live there now.”
Duan Yarong was a little surprised. She seemed to be surprised that Zhao Youlin did not return to her parents' home after her divorce from Mu Tingfeng.
Zhao Youlin saw what she was thinking. He took the initiative to hold her hand and said, “The oldest aunt, in the past, my shallow experience has misled me into believing the wrong person. I fail to see clearly who really cares about me and who tries to deceive me. As a result, I have hurt people who worry about me as well as people who laugh at me. I have learned a lot from this incident, and I will not repeat the same thing in the future.”
Duan Yarong was a little surprised. Immediately, he understood what Zhao Youlin meant. He sighed and at the same time, he realized that Zhao Youlin was growing older.
Zhao Youlin thought about it for a while before revealing to her the incident of her father and stepbrother coming to her right after her divorce from Mu Tingfeng. Of course, he breezed over the battle section.
Even so, Duan Yarong was still very angry and said, “Your father is getting worse after being cast under that woman's spell for so many years. Even if she didn't side with you during your divorce, how could she take you to apologize to Mu Tingfeng just because she was afraid that she would be dragged away by you?! He had truly shamed the reputation of the Zhao family!"
